Custom Headphone Case
The Idea
After two years of use, the leather on my headphone ear cups slowly started to deteriorate after being loosely kept in my school backpack. To increase longevity I decided to design a custom 3D-printed headphone case because why buy one when you can make one?
Design and Tolerances
Figuring out a way to ensure the slot was dimensioned to my specific headphone case there was no special make done, all that was required was a steady hand as I raced the outer parameter and inner profile with a pencil. A tolerance of +2.0 mm was used to compensate for any inconsistencies in the sketch and would also allow for an adequate clearance fit. I try to make use of empty space where I can to reduce material consumption and print time I saw the perfect opportunity to implement a compartment for the micro USB charger for accessibility and convenience.
Model Iterations
The best design is never the first, especially in the flesh. The first model had multiple tolerance issues with the headphone slot and the fit of the lid, overall I was not a fan of the exposed bottom and signature either. The hole was replaced, tolerances were reconfigured, and the signature was replaced with the micro USB charger.
