Tic-Tac Toy Gun
The Idea
Sparked by my curiosity for ingenious mechanisms I wanted to explore the firing mechanics involved in converting potential energy to kinetic energy and what better way than self-developing a spring-loaded TicTac gun
The Design
I wanted to utilize the resources at my disposal and create the simplest design that would be able to integrate items found in my school workshop. The design followed conventional dimensions to comfortably fit in any hand and features spring tension adjustability via turning a 3M bolt located in the firing mechanism. The design utilizes material efficiency and is assembled in only 4 pieces.
The Firing Mechanism
Having the firing mechanism and trigger seamlessly work together to launch the TicTac was the greatest design challenge and required countless iterations. As the firing mechanism is pulled back via the slide handle the spring is compressed and locked in place thanks to the snaplock on the trigger of the gun. Once the trigger is pulled the lock is released causing the spring to extend forcing the slide forward into the path of the TicTac launching it out the barrel.
